Gŵyl y Wal Goch 2023 is a festival celebrating football culture, held in Cardiff. This event took place from October 10 to October 15, 2023, and featured a variety of activities, including film screenings, panel debates, and discussions about the social impact of football.
The festival aims to highlight the diverse and inclusive nature of football fan cultures and promote social good through the sport. This year, it included a collaboration with the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival, showcasing football-themed short films and fostering discussions on related social issues.
I took part in a couple of the activities taking place in Cardiff / Caerdydd:
(1) A panel about sport and diplomacy, where I talked about the FIFA Women’s World Cup:
(2) Chairing a discussion on the joys and pitfalls of female fandom in fooball:
I had an incredible time contributing to Gŵyl y Wal Goch 2023 in Cardiff. It was inspiring to see the community come together to celebrate football culture and its positive impact on society. Participating in the panel discussions and film screenings was particularly rewarding, as it allowed me to share my passion for the sport and engage with others who feel the same. The festival’s inclusive atmosphere and focus on social good made it a truly memorable experience.
